The White Herron
Enjoy a stunning scenic cruise aboard the paddle boat “Takatahi Bell”. We follow the original Gold Trail Waterway route used by the old paddle steamers which plied the creek last century. Following Mahinapuea Creek right to its source Lake Mahinapua, through native regeneration, past the old timber and flax mill sites, through to untouched Native Rainforests viewed through mirror reflections caused by the stain of the leaf mould of the forest floor.
The trip offers some great photographic opportunities of the scenery and wildlife and native birds, including White Herons, Native Pigeons, Giant Rimu, Kahekatea, and Matai trees, Fern birds, Robins and Fantails, and also plenty of waterfowl including Native Teal, Scaup and Black Swan.
